Who We Are

Climate Edge was founded to transform the relationship our clients and our attorneys have with their respective environments. Clients are facing new pressures and challenges to mitigate the impact they have on the environment while managing the overall sustainability of their operations.  Government regulations, tax policies, public relations and investor demands are motivating, if not requiring, public and private clients to make very real changes to their operations and investment strategies.  A focus on quarterly profits or the next budgeting cycle is simply insufficient to address these broader, long-term climate issues. 

Clients need access to business, legal, and financial expertise that can specifically address sustainability, energy, and climate change risks and opportunities. This specialized area is not generally available from more general full-service law firms. 

At the same time, attorneys are facing material challenges to their practice and their relationship with clients.  Law firms - from large to small - have centered around a business model that places the needs of the firm - and firm profitability - above the interests of the clients. Typical firms exist to generate partner profits (with large law firms targeting the magic number of $1 million in profits per partner).  Partners are placed under enormous pressure to bill clients in support of the law firm's business model and market position. The tense relationship between law firms and clients over the size of bills, with the servicing attorneys caught in the middle, is indicative of the unspoken challenge the legal industry faces.

Climate Edge transforms this relationship.  As a firm, we are here to support our team of attorneys.  Our attorneys are here to support their clients.  The clients’ needs are the top of our pyramid, and our attorneys are in the best position to understand those needs.  We simply ensure our attorneys have what they need to serve their clients.  Attorneys are in control of their practice and their economics, with no pressure from the firm for the attorneys or their clients to conform to any particular mold.  Climate Edge supports our attorneys, and our attorneys support our clients. 

As part of this structure, we do not aim to be all things to all clients.  Our focus is on providing the highest legal, problem solving and deal management skills dealing with sustainability, renewable energy and climate change.  The clients we work with tend to share our values in how we approach our client relationship.  When there is the right fit between the client and the attorney, clients receive high-quality, cost-effective representation and our attorneys have a fulfilling professional career.
